This is like one of those moments when you can imagine the makers of the National Debt Clock saying: "14 spaces for numbers? Pshaw! Who would ever need that many spaces!"
Or a bit like Dr. Evil asking for $1 million in ransom and the 60's military on screen laughing and saying: "There isn't that much money in the world!"
Yeah we always assume it can never get worse, and when it does bite us in the rear we go "Hey, that wasn't supposed to happen!"
